PASTURED POULTRY
Day Range is a system of raising poultry which creates
a
happier, more
humane
environment for the poultry, meets
their basic needs, and creates a safer and more flavorful product. Day ranging takes its name from the practice of allowing the poultry to range freely within a grassy paddock, free to scratch and exercise during the daytime. Birds that are raised this way benefit from access to sunshine, clean air and fresh, green pasture. The results are better meat texture and more satisfying flavor. And here at Leunen Farms, we believe our poultry is raised in a safer, more humane way than mass produced, commercially confined birds.
We have
growing concerns regarding the safety of the food we buy at the store to feed
our family. Recent news stories warn us about diseases such as E. coli,
salmonella, and listeria. Even the USDA has become concerned about the quality
of meat processed in the US today, due to changes in the government food safety
procedures. Recent studies have proved that growth
hormones and preventative antibiotics leave drug residual in the meat you
consume and this has proven negative impact on your health.
Our day range poultry is fed only NON MEDICATED
feedstuffs which
contain
NO GROWTH HORMONES and
NO ANTIBIOTICS. Our poultry is farm processed, following published safety guidelines, in a Missouri State Approved facility. We take the time to insure that each bird is properly bled out and cleanly eviscerated. The results are unbelievable! You have never had chicken this fresh and flavorful before unless you have raised them yourself. Day ranging poultry produces a superior product, very similar to the successful Label Rouge model in France. Once you have tried it, it will be very hard to go back to commercially produced poultry products.
Muskovie ducks are the perfect homestead bird. They are quiet; they don't quack like other breeds of ducks, instead, they utter a hiss when disturbed or socializing. Muskovie ducks eat bugs! Especially, flies, ticks and mosquitoes. Help reduce your risk of disease by allowing a few of these ducks to free range on your farm now.
These ducks are available in a wide range of colors. We have breeding pairs and trios in commercial white, Black, Chocolate and Black/White Painted, and Brown/White Painted. Show quality birds for 4-H projects too!

Muscovies are a pretty addition to your yard. Although they do like to splash in a puddle, these ducks do not swim like other ducks; they lack water proofing oils in their feathers. So, if you don't have a pond, don't worry. These ducks are happy without a large body of water. We keep a few in each horse lot to control flies and after the garden is established each year, they are allowed to patrol the rows for damaging insects. Muscovies are excellent butcher ducks due to the extra large breast of all dark meat. They are also the best egg layers of all the duck breeds. Chefs prefer duck eggs for baking due to the albumen quality. Isn't it time you tried some Muscovies?
